A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent defended four early-game opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
